What The Video Game Systems Have Contributed To Our Lives

February 11, 2010 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

Not so long ago, people were content with watching television, movies or DVDs, listening to music on the radio or playing games on their computers. Today’s generation thirst for more. What they want is a more interactive form of entertainment, which is now made possible through video game systems.

If you are an 80’s baby, then you’ll probably be familiar with how to play Super Nintendo. Super Mario Brothers, Crash Bandicoot, Street Fighter, and Grand Turismo are just a few of the more famous games that you have enjoyed playing in your youthful days. While today’s youth are already fond of their PSP, X-Box Gaming Console and Nintendo Wii.

What really makes the video game systems of today more special in comparison to what we have had in the past? Well, the best answer to give is the interactivity. During earlier times, the joystick was probably the only medium through which we play games and interact with another player, or with the virtual world that we see through the screen. Today, playing video game systems has become more complicated, providing more that just the monitor and a joystick that we have grown up with. Today, there are other mediums and accessories introduced depending on which video game console you prefer. More than just using your fingers, most of today’s video game systems require the movement of arms and legs in order to play the game the right way.

The positive thing with this is that the player is now required to move more muscles and is not just seated and moving their fingers for a long period of time. With what the game now requires, the player needs to do body movements for the purpose of playing the game right. In fact, Nintendo Wii even offers some video games that promote physical activities as well. So not only are you enjoying the game, you are also exercising your body at the same time.

The fact that video game systems of today have been made more interactive makes them more attractive than ever to kids. In fact, even a toddler can now play certain types of video games. Since the graphics are much more sophisticated making them look like they are real, more and more people have become interested in playing these games. Their reasons vary and may be for the purpose of bonding with their families, relaxation away from studies or work, or just bonding with their best friend.

Most of these video game systems are user friendly so that even a 4 year old can understand how to use them. Parents should be vigilant by watching and supervising their kids with regards to playing those games that are just right for their age. Certain video games may include violence that can affect the way of life of your child later as he grows up. Of course, these games do not intend to do harm to its audience, but just bring total entertainment for the whole family. They are mainly created for the purpose of pure entertainment. Just to be sure, it is suggested that you let your children play the video games that are perfectly suited for their age.

Online Gaming : Learn Some Of The Basic Gaming Terms

January 3, 2010 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

You may have heard a few people who play online games spout certain terms like F2P, P2P, NPC or leveling up. These terms are what you might call online gaming jargon and, unless you are already an experienced online gamer, you probably aren’t yet aware of what mobbing, farming or hunting mean in online gaming. Here are some of the most basic terms that you may or may not hear from certain online gamers:

P2P – This is an abbreviation of pay-to-play which is used to describe online games which you must pay the creator of the game to participate in. This payment can be for a set number of hours or, more often than not, on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.

F2P – This term is a shortened form of free-to-play and describes those games which can be played online without the need for any paid subscription. The fact that they are free doesn’t mean that they are low quality though; indeed, some of the best and most popular online games are F2P.

Bots – This term refers to those characters within a game which are being controlled by a computer rather than a human. Bots are generally more predictable than human players as they can only follow pre-determined scripts, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are weaker. Still, once you have learnt the typical behavior of a particular bot then they are not difficult to overcome.

NPC – Those characters within a game which are there to facilitate your adventure by giving you advice and helpful items are called non-player characters (NPCs). These are harmless characters for which you will gain nothing for killing.

Mobbing – This means to go on a mass killing spree in a short period of time. It is done if there happens to be a lot of weak players in the surrounding area or if someone want to quickly improve their characters points or reputation.

Loots / Drops – When you kill another character within a game you are rewarded with what is called loots or drops. These appear at the spot where the fatal blow was struck and can come in different forms. What exactly loots or drops are is dependent on the type of the character that has just been killed and what they were carrying. Typically though, you can expect them to be one, or a combination of, money, weapons, potions or accessories.

Farming – This usually happens in conjunction with mobbing, since mobbing often produces drops or loots that are needed by players to either make in-game money or steal weapons, potions or accessories from other players. This term is also used for collecting certain materials that are hard to find and are needed for creating rare weapons or armors that can help make a character stronger.

Online Gaming – Are Free Or Paid Games Best?

December 29, 2009 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

There are two types of online games – free ones and paid ones. Free online games are referred to as F2P and paid online games are referred to as P2P. The debate that is going on between players and followers of these two types of games often stem from which type of game is best and which one gives you more chances of building a strong character based on hard work or based on your having money.

There are good arguments for either side of the debate and, probably, there will never come a time when everyone agrees. If you’re an online gamer yourself, then you may well already have formed your opinions on the matter, but it’s still worth reviewing the points for and against both P2P and F2P.

When you have a pay to play game, you will need to pay a monthly fee to allow you to log in and play. The usual argument with this is that in a pay to play environment, your subscription may run out without your using it if you play due to busy schedules and such, while free to play games that you can register and play on for free are there for you to visit anytime you want without the overhead monthly cost of membership.

It should be noted though that F2P games are not as free as you might assume they would be. Yes, you can play them without setting up a monthly subscription, but, if you want to make real progress on them, you will probably need to strengthen your character and get specific items for them. This may be achievable through hard work, but, in many cases, the only way to improve or upgrade is to pay. As for P2P games, you will find that weapons, armors and accessories that you need to become stronger can be had in-game without the need to buy them with real cash from an online shop.

The number of players involved in a game is the other major factor to take into consideration as, generally, the more players, the better the gaming experience as there is more action and interactions with others. F2P games tend to attract more players, though there are some exceptions, and you would therefore assume that F2P games win on this issue. However, the ‘quality’ of players is generally better on P2P; they are more involved and more knowledgeable. Therefore, for those gamers who wish to build armies and form alliances, P2P games are better, as the other players will be online more and will be more reliable.

New Class of Xbox 360 Accessories To Better Xbox 360 Gaming

December 20, 2009 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

You probably already know it, Xbox 360 Games offer some of the most extraordinarily immersive experiences anywhere, online or off.  With hit titles like Halo, Fallout, Call of Duty, and Panzer General : Allied Assault, it’s tricky to see what else could possibly improve gameplay any more than the long way it is already come.  Of course , it was not but a couple of years ago that clunky old-school controllers were still being used.  Today the user interface has improved noticeably, with on-board accelerometers to process spatial information for human kinetics in gaming.  But something on the horizon may be the most revolutionary thing to hit videogaming at home in our time.

Xbox 360 games can be closely matched to Xbox 360 Accessories for the most continuing experience of actually immersive gameplay.  But what if there were no need for any Xbox 360 accessories save one?  One ueber-accessory to replace them all?  Long the stuff of science fiction and comic books, this latest of Xbox 360 Accessories would also be the last.  It would be the only thing wanted to play all of the Xbox 360 games made of then on.

Not heard of it?  That’s as it was only recently announced by Microsoft.  It’s a electronic eye of sorts that may obliterate the need for physical controllers, hardware that’s held in one’s hand.  This new soon-to-come electronic eye will sense player movements in space, so hand held controllers with built in accelerometers will not be required.  This latest advance in gaming technology will be out inside the following year or two, and will be mounted separately from the console.  But all user movement info will be provided to the console just the same.  Try to imagine playing computer games with nothing less than your own body and body movements!

This veritable sorcery eye that Microsoft has been developing will even track eye movements to modify point of view in a first-person shooter.  Imagine Halo or Call of Duty or medal of honour without annoying controllers but with instead a light gun and your own body and your own eyes!  As you turn right the screen-capture reveals scenery to your right side, and as you turn left the panorama shifts with you!
So while today’s Xbox 360 games are quite complicated, the Xbox accessories to come will require software that rethinks the entire notion of onscreen and off.  Hardware and software exist in a symbiotic relationship, and it’ll be interesting to see what transpires next now that the hardware has taken a quantum leap forward!

New Need For Speed is actually a good game

November 26, 2009 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

After just returning the rented copy of Shift I have to say it was very good. Past additions of the game have been very poor indeed. A lot of the previous editions of the Need For Speed games have actually been pretty poor.

The creators have actually scrapped all previous ideas for the titles and made the game into a proper, realistic racing experience which has actually got a chance to complete with the upcoming 360 exclusive, Forza 3.

The game itself is long lasting indeed, with hours needed to be spent on it to gain access to cars and to finish all of the races. This is without even taking in the online modes which can only mean more hours spent on the game.

This game isn’t about used cars but more about the custom made models from the likes of BMW, Toyota and every other car maker you can think of.

Need for Speed in terms of fun does actually seem a lot better than Forza but having only played the demo of Forza it might be a bit too early to tell. When it comes to thinking about Forza the graphics are a lot better and they have a bigger selection of cars.

EA has made a surprising move this year by concentrating on the driver and how the driver would feel whilst driving the car. You feel like the driver because speed is shown as a bit blurry, crashes turn the screen black and white and damage is shown on the windscreen too.

All you need to do is play the two demo's for the games and decide for yourself, you could always think about getting them both!

Xbox Live Accounts

November 13, 2009 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

Xbox 360 now gives gamers the means to interact with one another, by utilizing the add-on feature that is Xbox Live. If you’re an Xbox Live user, you are instantly part of the chat list. So, you are able to chat and discuss anytime with your gaming friends via the Xbox 360 headset. In addition, you can also interact and plan a gaming throwdown with thousands of other Xbox gamers.  Xbox  Live also allows you to shop in Xbox Live Marketplace, download extra game content and even access preview videos.

If gamers are interested by these functions and wish to become an Xbox Live member, then there are a couple of memberships to choose from, divided into two separate services – gold and silver.

Up first, the silver service is just the basic version of Xbox Live. Choosing this variation, gamers can easily get online and download videogames. On top of this, you are given the facility to use their own voice to chat and meet with other Xbox Live players. However, this is all Xbox Live silver provides customers with. If you are looking for the true Xbox Live experience, Xbox Live gold is what you need to go for.

Secondly, the Xbox Live Gold service has many functions that make it an awesome way to game on the web. Aswell as the incredible Xbox Live functions, it provides players with a bunch of additional add-ons. There’s improved chat compatability, as well as interaction with a range of Microsoft products, including messenger and further chat and video programs. The most notable feature of Xbox Live gold is the way in which your web avatar is shown to the community.  Every account is allowed to create a unique ‘motto’ displaying to other game players online, even linking them to Facebook.  Additionally, you’re also able to keep a record of your accomplishments. As you play continuously you gradually forge a reputation, and if players warm to you they are able to rank you positively, making it better to avoid being grouped with users holding bad repute.

Gamers can also build a contact list that will list all your selected friends. It’ll also tell you when any of your friends go online. There’s also a player list that will record the last 50 friends that you have encountered.

Xbox Live is as good as Xbox gaming gets.  It not only offers great gaming but also provides you with the opportunity to share your experience with other players!
